Instructions to Apply for an Real Estate/Personal Property Abatement

The only time you are able to file a Real Estate or Personal Property Application for Abatement (State Tax Form 128) is when you receive your ACTUAL TAX BILL. (The Actual Tax Bill is third quarter bill issued in December)

  1. Obtain Abatement Application form by clicking below.
  2. Complete sections 'A' and 'B' on the form with all necessary information from your tax bill.
  3. Section 'C': Briefly explain your reason an abatement. Please attach any additional information (i.e. appraisals) and complete the property verification form (pages 2 & 3).
  4. Section 'D': date and sign the application.
  5. File the Form Timely with the Assessors Office. In order to be considered filed timely, the application must be received by the Assessors office by the deadline of February 1, 2024, or mailed to the Assessors office, 21 Depot Square, Sheffield, MA 01257 by the United States Postal Service, first class prepaid, on or before the deadline, as shown by a postmark made by the United States Postal Service.
