Information for the State Primary Election and State Election

The State Primary Election is to take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Polling hours are 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM at the Senior Center located at 25 Cook Rd. The deadline to register to vote is Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 5:00 PM. The deadline to request a Vote By Mail Ballot is August 25, 2026 at 5:00 PM. In-Person Early Voting will be available Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, August 24th - 27th, 2026 at Town Hall, 21 Depot Square. 

The State Election is to take place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Polling hours are 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM at the Senior Center located at 25 Cook Rd. The deadline to register to vote is Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 5:00 PM. The deadline to request a Vote By Mail Ballot is October 27, 2026 at 5:00 PM. In-Person Early Voting will be available Saturdays, October 17th & 24th from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, October 19th - 29th, 2026 at Town Hall, 21 Depot Square. 

Registration is available year round at the Town Hall, Town Clerk’s office during regular business hours, or you may visit the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website at: www.sec.state.ma.us. If you are utilizing the online voter registration program, or if you register at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, you are encouraged to confirm that your registration is in order.

Early Vote by Mail/Absentee Voting is also available. Please find information on the Town’s website, the Town Hall, the Secretary of States web page at: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/, for forms and information, or feel free to contact the Clerk’s office for assistance.

Due to recent legislative changes, anyone registering through a State agency such as the RMV, MassHealth or Commonwealth Health Connector, will be automatically registered to vote. If you receive notification from our office verifying a voter registration change, and you do not wish to be registered, or you have a party change, please contact us for assistance.

The Annual Street List (Census) is mailed in early January. It is important to review the information, sign and return your form as soon as possible. You may not change your party affiliation or register to vote on the census. Additionally, if you are a voter and have moved, please indicate your new address for proper processing of your data.

Information for Annual Town Meeting and Annual Town Election
Sheffield's Annual Town Meeting takes place annually on the first Monday in May. Sheffield has an Open Town Meeting. Anyone is welcome to attend, however, you do need to be a registered voter to vote on Warrant Articles.

The Annual Town Election takes place the following week on the second Monday in May. Polling hours are 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM at the Senior Center located at 25 Cook Rd. Nomination Papers for local offices are available at the Town Clerk's office beginning in January. In order to run for an elected position you should be a Town resident and registered voter in good standing. 

The offices to appear on the ballot are: Moderator, one 1-year seat; Select Board, one 3-year seat; Library Trustee, one 3-year seat; Planning Board, one 3-year seat and Planning Board, one 2-year seat to fill an unexpired term. 

The Annual Town Meeting and the Annual Town Election are combined events, and as such have a combined voter registration date deadline, ten days prior to the Town Meeting. The deadline to register as a voter for the 2026 local events is Friday, April 24, 2026.
